Barbara Miller Lambert, 81, of Winchester, Virginia passed away at her home on March 21, 2018, under the care of Blue Ridge Hospice with her loving husband and daughters by her side.
Barbara was born in 1936 in Woodstock, VA. She was the daughter of the late Marshall L. and Joan S. Miller of Woodstock, VA. Barbara was a graduate of Woodstock High School, Class of 1954 and attended Madison College before transitioning to employment as the secretary to the General Manager of what is now known as Shentel in Edinburg, VA. Additionally, prior to becoming a full-time homemaker, Barbara was a stenographer at the State Corporation Commission in Richmond, VA. However, her greatest job was being a loving mother to her two daughters and a devoted grandmother to her two grandchildren. Outside of the home, Barbara was a member of the Woodstock Woman’s Club and enjoyed doing volunteer work as a Girl Scout Leader, Sunday school teacher, and Elementary school tutor. She enjoyed traveling with dear friends, going to the movies and spending time with her family including many memorable trips to Myrtle Beach, SC. She was an active member of Woodstock Christian Church Disciples of Christ.
Barbara married Dr. James Isaac Lambert on July 12, 1959 in Woodstock, VA. Surviving with her husband of 58 years are daughters, Susan Lambert Russell and husband Jack of Tysons Corner, VA, Gretchen Lambert Johnson and husband Mark of Winchester, VA, 2 grandchildren, Meredith and Parker Johnson, and 3 “granddogs”, Beacon, Bounce and Sara. Barbara was preceded in death by her parents and sister, Katherine Virginia Young.
A gathering of family and friends will be from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm on Friday at Omps Funeral Home, Amherst Chapel.
A private committal service for family members will be conducted at Shenandoah Memorial Park Mausoleum, 1270 Front Royal Pike, Winchester, VA 22602.
