Darlene Elizabeth Updike, 63, of Frederick County, Virginia passed away Thursday, November 15, 2018, surrounded by her loving family at Winchester Medical Center.
Mrs. Updike was born in 1955 in Winchester, Virginia, the daughter of the late Herbert and Della Dunlap. She graduated from James Wood High School and was owner/operator of White Hall Grocery. Mrs. Updike loved her plants, flowers and animals….she collected everything. She had a heart of gold, would do anything for anybody, and you could always count on her. Her greatest passion were her grandchildren…they were her world. Mrs. Updike was a member of Cornerstone United Pentecostal Church.
She married James W. Updike in 1995 in Clear Brook, Virginia.
Surviving with her husband is a daughter, Diane Showalter (Marty); sons, Steve Thayer, Jr., Shawn Updike (Tina), Shane Updike; grandchildren, Michael, Julia, Kelly, Brittney, Hannah, Haylea, Nick, Brijie, Shannon, Divine, Devyn, Eryn, Ashlee, Caitlen, and BJ; five great-grandchildren; brothers, Gerald, Thomas “Tommy”, and Herbie Dunlap; and many loving nieces, nephews and dear friends.
Along with her parents Mrs. Updike was preceded in death by sister, Daisy Owens and brother, Elmer Dunlap.
A visitation will be from 6 pm to 8 pm on Tuesday at Omps Funeral Home, Amherst Chapel.
A funeral service will be conducted at 11 am on Wednesday at Cornerstone United Pentecostal Church, 189 Parson Court, Winchester, Virginia with Pastor Jeff Dillon officiating. Interment will be in Shenandoah Memorial Park, Winchester, Virginia.
