Mr. Zahorchak was born in 1928 in Central City, Pennsylvania, the son of the late Michael and Mary Zahorchak. He was a WWII veteran of the United States Army. George was a retired carpenter working for Robinson and Thayer, Custom Builders, in Fairfax, Virginia. He built his own home and was a member of the Moose Lodge in Strasburg, Virginia, The Horseshoe Club in Winchester, and The Rabbit Club in Manassas. George was quite the prankster who loved family water fights and would build his own pan slides; he loved playing hide and go seek inside the house and in the woods; he also enjoyed hunting, walking in the woods, billiards, watching WWE wrestling, his tractor, Hershey Kisses, and above all else he adored his family. He and his wife, Evelyn, belonged to a round dance club. He was a member of Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church. A loving husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, and brother that is missed.
Mr. Zahorchak married Evelyn Marie Gumbita on May 30, 1953 in Central City, Pennsylvania.
Surviving with his wife of 64 years are daughters, Chris Stevens (Ernie), Diane Barb (Ray), Kathy Zahorchak, and Lynn Zahorchak; son, James Michael Zahorchak (Kimberly); grandchildren, Christopher Aubrey (Megan), Jason Smith (Anne), Stephen Smith (Skye), Christy Langford (Chris), Nick Rhea (Melissa), David Aubrey (Stasha), Jessica Stevens (Stephen), Natalie Gray (Josh), Amanda Sale (Jeff), Brittany Zahorchak (Elijah), Ryan Davis and Chloe Zahorchak; great grandchildren, Bailey, Morgan, Evan, Liam, Draven, Skylar, Helena, Orion and Baby Girl Smith (on the way, still under construction); step-great grandchildren, Steven, Kaden, Seven, Deigan and Dahlia; sisters, Margie Blank and Theresa Costanzo; and many loving nieces, nephews and dear friends.
Mr. Zahorchak was preceded in death by son-in-law, Skip Miles; sister, Pauline Ludman; and brothers, John, Andy, Michael, and Joe Zahorchak.
A gathering of family and friends will be from 6 pm to 9 pm on Thursday at Omps Funeral Home, Amherst Chapel.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10 am on Monday at Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church with Reverend Bjorn Lundberg officiating. Interment will be in Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic cemetery. A reception will follow the interment at Omps Reception Center, Amherst Chapel.
Serving as pallbearers will be James Zahorchak, Christopher Aubrey, Jason Smith, Stephen Smith, Nick Rhea, and David Aubrey.
George wanted to take his skillful work with him, so he even built his own casket.
Memorial contributions in memory of George may be made to Blue Ridge Hospice, 333 West Cork Street, Suite 405, Winchester, Virginia 22601
