Geraldine “Deane” Chapman, (82), of Winchester, VA, passed away peacefully on Saturday, May 27, 2017. Born to Jake & Ella Henley of LaFollette, TN, she graduated from LaFollette High School, and attended Lincoln Memorial University in Harrogate, TN. On May 18, 1957, she married Ray Chapman of Duff, TN, with whom she had a daughter & a son.
Deane worked as an executive secretary at National Cash Register Company in Dayton, Ohio, and as administrative assistant at Hargrave Military Academy in Chatham, VA. She spent the majority of her career as the administrative assistant to two successive superintendents at the Frederick County School Board office in Winchester, VA, and retired in 1994.
Possessing a razor-sharp wit, Deane loved sharing a laugh with her friends. She enjoyed shopping for the latest bargain, decorating her home, and extending hospitality to her friends & family. She could often be found outdoors, planting flowers, walking in the neighborhood, or hiking. At local dance club events, Deane & Ray were a smooth pair on the dance floor. As an active member of First Baptist Church, Winchester, Deane made lifetime friends with whom she shared many happy occasions. She treasured time spent with her family joining them on vacations & outings.

Winchester who showered her with kindness & thoughtfulness during her lengthy battle with Alzheimer’s. She was preceded in death by her husband of 58 years, Ray Chapman & is survived by her daughter, Beth Snyder (Don); son, Brent Chapman (Lisa), and four granddaughters.
The family will receive visitors at Omps Funeral Home, Amherst Chapel on Thursday, June 1 from 6-8pm. Funeral services will take place at First Baptist Church, Winchester, on Friday, June 2 at 11:00am. Interment to follow at Shenandoah Memorial Park, Winchester, with a luncheon reception at Omps Funeral Home, South Chapel. In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to First Baptist Church, 205 W. Piccadilly Street, Winchester, VA, 22601.
