John Fletcher Jones, Jr., 73, of Frederick County, Virginia, passed peacefully Monday, April 18, 2016, at Winchester Medical Center.
Mr. Jones was born in 1942, in Burnwell, West Virginia, the son of Vada Belle Craig and the late John Fletcher Jones, Sr. He served proudly in the United States Air Force during the Vietnam War. In 1980 John founded Central Atlantic Insurance in Winchester, Virginia. He was Agent of Record for the Virginia Retired Teachers Association from 1990 through 2013. He and his wife Janice also founded Upinfront Stables LLC and enjoyed breeding and racing thoroughbred horses. He attended Braddock Street United Methodist Church in Winchester and was a member of VFW Post 2123 and the West Virginia Breeders Association.
John and Janice married on August 9, 1994, in Hagerstown, Maryland.
Surviving with his mother of Berryville, Virginia, and his wife, are 4 sons, Timothy K. Jones of Whiteville, North Carolina, James DuBrueler, Jr. (Amy) of Stephens City, Virginia, Justin DuBrueler of Ashland, Virginia, Jerod DuBrueler (Stacey) of Moseley, Virginia; grandchildren, Adam and Emily DuBrueler, Ryan and Colby DuBrueler, Ethan, Jonathan, Allison and Heidi DuBrueler, his half-brother Alex Jones of Henerson, Kentucky, half-sister Janice Hattabaugh of Henderson, Kentucky, half sister Libby Eggleston of New Jersey and numerous Aunts, Uncles, Nieces, Nephews and Cousins.
A special thanks to Rid and Wilma Valesco who provided compassion and prayerful comfort to John for the past few months and especially to Chris Biggs who not only was an exceptional caregiver but was a beloved friend and companion to John over the past 2 years.
The family will receive friends on Thursday evening, from 6:00-8:00 PM, at Omps Funeral Home, Amherst Chapel.
A funeral service will be conducted at 11:00 AM on Friday at Omps Funeral Home, Amherst Chapel with Pastor Adam Sowder officiating. Interment will be in Shenandoah Memorial Park, Frederick County, Virginia.
