Mary Shoemaker, 94, of Stephens City, Virginia died Monday, May 16, 2016 at her residence.
Mrs. Shoemaker was born in 1922, the daughter of the late Charles Young, Sr. and Annie Young in Thomas, West Virginia. She graduated from Thomas High School in Thomas, West Virginia. She assembled circuit boards for Harry Diamond Laboratories in Maryland, where she retired. She was a parishioner of Stephens City United Methodist Church. Mrs. Shoemaker participated in many different clubs and organizations, including the Eastern Star, which she was a worthy matron of Harmony Chapter in Vienna, from 1970-1971, and Apple Valley Square Dancing. She enjoyed her quilting, cooking, crocheting, and most of all she loved her family and spending time with them.
Her husband, George A. Shoemaker, whom she married on December 2, 1939 in Maryland, preceded her in death on November 18, 2015.
Mrs. Shoemaker is survived by her two daughters, Nancy A. Dodge (William), of Sterling, Virginia and Susan M. Costello (Larry Lucas), of Stephens City, Virginia; her son, Stephen R. Shoemaker (Beverly), of Manassas, Virginia; seven grandchildren, Bret, April, Sarah, Heather, Valerie, Kyle, and Trevor; five great-grandchildren, Jennifer, Brett, Glen, Carla, and Deegan; and four great great-grandchildren, Victoria, Andrea, Joseph, and Myiaka.
Mrs. Shoemaker was preceded in death by her daughter, Joan L. Kisley as well as her ten siblings.
A funeral service will be conducted on Thursday, May 19, 2016 at 10:00 AM at Omps South Chapel, 1260 Front Royal Pike, Winchester, Virginia with Reverend Waverly Reames officiating. Interment will be at National Memorial Park, 7482 Lee Highway, Falls Church, Virginia 22042 at 2:00 PM the same day.
