Phil H. Dawson, P.E., of Stephens City, Virginia passed away on August 1, 2018 after a long battle with cancer. He was 70 years old. He is survived by his wife, Arline Taylor Dawson of Stephens City and two sons, Ward Dawson and wife, Aleece of Plantation, Florida and Kent Dawson and wife, Delisa of Houston, Texas. He is also survived by his father, Joseph Dawson of Danville, Virginia.
Phil was born and raised in Danville, Virginia, son of Ruth and Joseph Dawson. He graduated from Tunstall High School and Virginia Tech where he earned a Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering. He lived and worked for many years in Roanoke Virginia and later in Burke, Virginia. Phil was a licensed Professional Engineer in the Commonwealth of Virginia and 13 other states. In addition, he was a registered Roof Consultant, an Expert Witness on Building Construction Contract and Performance Issues, and a Lecturer for The Roofing Industry Educational Institute. Phil was a member of the National Society of Professional Engineers and numerous other Engineering organizations.
Phil was a life-long member of the Presbyterian Church, serving as both Deacon and Elder at First Presbyterian Church in Roanoke, Virginia.
Phil and his wife enjoyed travel and visited many countries in Europe and the Caribbean.
Phil’s most important role was being a father to his two sons, of whom he was most proud.
A celebration of life reception will be from 3 pm to 5 pm on Saturday, August, 11th, at Omps Funeral Home, South Chapel with Chaplain Carol Wille officiating.
In lieu of flowers, the family ask that contributions in Phil’s memory be made to Blue Ridge Hospice, 333 W. Cork Street, Suite 405, Winchester, Virginia 22601.
