Phyllis B. “Grandma” Kerns, age 94, of Winchester, Virginia, went home to be with the Lord on Monday, June 11, 2018, in Rose Hill Health and Rehab Center, Berryville, Virginia.
Phyllis was born in 1924 in Augusta County, Virginia, the daughter of the late James W. and Emma W. Berry. She was a graduate of Augusta County High School and attended Open Door Baptist Church. Phyllis worked as a seamstress at J. Schoenman in Kernstown, Virginia until its closing and worked at various nursing homes until her retirement. She was a member of Shenandoah Valley Senior Citizen’s Group and enjoyed gardening, cruises, watching the Redskins and NASCAR. Phyllis was a devoted mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister who loved her family, God, and everyone in general.
Phyllis is survived by two daughters, Becky Ruble (Ray), and Sandy Dunivan (James), all of Clear Brook, Virginia; two sons, Robert Kerns and John Kerns (Donna), all of Stephens City, Virginia; grandchildren, Tracey Ruble and Stephen Ruble, both of Clear Brook, Virginia, Angel Jaquays (Mark) and Stacy Gurewitz, all of Winchester, Virginia, Robert Lewis Kerns (Laura) of Tahlaquah, Oklahoma, and Todd William Kerns (Fiancée, Kelly) of Stephens City, Virginia; great-grandchildren, Samantha, Joshua, and Calvin DeHaven all of Gerrardstown, West Virginia, Maran and Mackenzie Jaquays of Winchester, Virginia, and James Robert Kerns, Camden and Abigail Gurewitz, all of Winchester, Virginia.
Phyllis was preceded in death by her parents, former husband, Elmer Kerns, daughter-in-law, Pamela Kerns, two grandchildren, Dwaine Dunivan and Susan Kerns; sisters, Margaret Bartley and Elizabeth Bartley; and brothers, James, Roscoe, and Claude Berry.
A gathering of family and friends will be held on Friday from 6 – 8 PM at Omps Funeral Home, South Chapel.
A funeral service will be conducted on Saturday at 11:00 AM at Omps Funeral Home, South Chapel with Pastor David Hartley officiating. Interment will be in Shenandoah Memorial Park.
Pallbearers will be Dave Bartley, Joe Bartley, Mike Bartley, Earl Bartley, George Bartley, and Richard Bartley.
