Phyllis Elaine Van Voorhis Strother, 91, of Winchester, Virginia died Thursday, November 19, 2015 in a local nursing home.
Mrs. Strother was born in 1924, in Romney, West Virginia, the daughter of the late Hiram and Gyneth Van Voorhis. She was a Nursing School Graduate and worked for more than 50 years as a Registered Nurse. She retired from Winchester Medical Center in 1986. Mrs. Strother was a member of Fellowship Bible Church and was the pianist at College Park Church of Christ in Winchester for more than 30 years. She enjoyed quilting, photography, was an excellent baker and seamstress.
Her husband, Kenneth W. Strother, whom she married on January 20, 1955, in Romney, West Virginia, preceded her in death.
Surviving is her daughter, Ann Elizabeth S. Pollard and her husband, Dan Poliero; and two grandchildren, Samuel Strother Pollard and Frederick William Pollard III.
Two brothers, David and John Van Voorhis and their wives, Vivian and Alice, preceded her in death.
The family will receive friends on Monday, from 12:00-1:00 PM at Omps Funeral Home, Amherst Chapel.
A funeral service will be conducted at 1:00 PM on Monday at Omps Funeral Home, Amherst Chapel with Pastor John Morrison officiating. Interment will be in Shenandoah Memorial Park, Frederick County, Virginia.
