Mr. Richard Martin Stayton, 87, of Winchester, Virginia died Friday, July 8, 2016 at Evergreen Health and Rehab Center.
Mr. Stayton was born in 1928 in Winchester, Virginia, the son of the late Richard L. and Bertha Mae Stayton. Mr. Stayton was a veteran having served in the United States Army. He was a law enforcement officer with Marlow Heights, New Oxford, and Prince George’s County. Mr. Stayton also worked as a linesman with Pepco Electric Company in Maryland and with Rockingham Construction Company. He loved to travel around the United States and loved spending time with his family.
His wife, Elsie Strosnider Stayton, preceded him in death.
Surviving is a son; five grandchildren; seven great grandchildren; sister, Frances Smallwood; and close friend, Carol Moore.
Mr. Stayton is preceded in death by a daughter, Joyce Marie Butler; son, Gary Martin Stayton; sister, Hester Geraldine Shanholtz; and brother, Donald Lee Stayton.
All services will be private, arrangements are being handled by Omps Funeral Home, Amherst Chapel.
