Ruth May Earnshaw, 84, of Stephens City, VA went to be with the Lord on Friday, November 17, 2017 at Winchester Medical Center, after a brief yet courageous battle with cancer. Ruth was born in Washington, DC in 1933, the daughter of the late Fred and Lillian Julian. She became chairside assistant and office manager for Dr. Herbert I. Earnshaw, DDS in 1950 and they married in 1951. They had two sons, William F. Earnshaw, Sr. and Garrett I. Earnshaw. She was very active in her church and community.
Ruth loved to travel, especially to places on the beach where she loved to listen to the surf and collect seashells. She enjoyed pressing flowers and collecting butterflies. She wrapped many babies with love in the beautiful baby blankets she made. Ruth always greeted you with a warm smile and hug that will be missed by many.
She is survived by her husband of 66 years, Dr. Herbert I. Earnshaw of Stephens City, VA; son, William F. Earnshaw, Sr. of Midland, VA; six grandchildren and six great grandchildren; brother, James Merrill of Falls Church, VA; and many nieces, nephews and dear friends.
She was predeceased by her brother, Scott Ingram of Newport News, VA and her son, Gary Earnshaw of Winchester, VA.
Family and friends will be received Wednesday, November 29th from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm at Omps Funeral Home, Amherst Chapel.
A Celebration of Life service will be Thursday, November 30th at 11:00 am at Omps Funeral Home, Amherst Chapel with Reverend George Anderson officiating. Interment will be in Shenandoah Memorial Park.
Following the interment, a Fellowship Gathering meal will be at Relief United Methodist Church, 5275 Middle Road, Winchester, VA.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that people do something nice for others in her memory.
