Thomas Michael Petruska, 69, of Lake Frederick, Virginia, died Tuesday, February 2, 2016, in Charlottesville, Virginia.

Mr. Petruska was born in 1946, in Troy, New York, the son of the late Gertrude and Michael F. Petruska. He was a graduate of Villanova University receiving a Bachelor’s Degree as well as receiving his MBA Degree from George Mason University. Thomas was the owner of a contract consulting firm until his death. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and friend to many. Tom will be forever remembered for his love of his faith, family and friends. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him throughout the years especially those within his Lake Frederick Community.

He married Kathleen Ann Collins on June 17, 1972, in Stamford, Connecticut.

Surviving with his wife is his daughter, Kerry Bitter and husband, Michael, of Winchester; and grandson, Shaun Michael Bitter as well as many close friends.

One son, Michael Terrance Petruska, preceded him in death.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 AM on Monday, at Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church with Father Brendan W. Bartlett officiating. A reception will immediately follow the Mass at Omps Funeral Home Reception Center, Amherst Chapel. Interment will be in Shenandoah Memorial Park, Frederick County, Virginia.

In Lieu of flowers memorial contributions in Tom’s name may be made to the University of Virginia Health Foundation-School of Nursing Compassionate Care Initiative, P.O. Cathy and family, I was so sorry to hear of Tom’s passing. I have wonderful memories of our college days and the Villanova Singers May God bless you all at this very sad time.

I met Tom at St.Veronica Catholic Church in Chantilly prior to his and Kathy's move to the Shenandoah area. He was the founding president of our chapter of St. Vincent de Paul Society. He made a wonderful contribution to the society and the people with whom he dealt. My prayers for the repose of his soul and for his family. Cathy Cahill

Tom was such an important part of our Shenandoah Community as he cared for everyone around him. He and his smile will be missed and I will cherish the times we shared together. God's blessings and strength to Kathy and family.

I was so very sorry to hear of Tom's passing. May he rest in peace and may you find peace in knowing that he is no longer in pain and in a much better place. He and your son are watching over you. Love, hugs and prayers to you during this very difficult time.

Tom was a business associate and friend. My wife and I moved to Winchester in 2012 and I learned Tom lived nearby in Lake Frederick. We began having breakfast at least once per quarter at the iHop on 522. He was a great guy and helped me develop content for the ACT-IAC Academy. He helped teach classes for me as a volunteer. I really enjoyed our friendship. He was a great guy and will be missed. RIP Tom.

Tom was a good friend and next door neighbor. We will miss him greatly on our street and in our community. Our thoughts and prayers go out for Kathy, Kerry and family.

Tom and the Lake Frederick community is part of our family at Shenandoah Valley Golf Club. We will miss him. Our thoughts to Kathy.

Tom was a close friend, travel companion and exemplary contributor to the Lake Frederick Community through committee service and volunteer activities. We will miss him greatly. Our thoughts and prayers continue for Kathy and family.

Tom's faith and example helped me through my own journey upon the death of a loved one. God has surely welcomed him into heaven. Sympathy and prayers to Kathy and family

I met Tom and Kathy at ballroom dance class. We had a great time together. Later I worked as an administrative assistant for him. My prayers are with his family during this difficult time. Love to you all.
