William E. “Billy” Edmonson, Jr., 72, of Gore, Virginia, passed away on April 16, 2017 at Winchester Medical Center.
Billy was born in Harrisonburg, Virginia in Rockingham Memorial Hospital in 1944. He is the son of the late William Earl and Doris “Peggy” Edmonson. Billy attended James Wood High School and took classes at Blue Ridge Community College and Lord Fairfax Community College. Billy had earned his Master Plumber Certification from LFCC, building upon the trade that he learned from his father growing up. Billy’s career and retirement came from his time with the U.S. Geological Survey as part of the Department of the Interior. He moved up the ranks to become a Project Manager there. Billy was a member of the Winchester Moose Lodge 1283, the Winchester-Frederick County Conservation Club, the National Rifle Association, and the Izaak Walton League. He was a member of Grace United Methodist Church in Middletown, Virginia. Billy was an avid outdoorsman and loved to garden (which was his therapy to help him relax and focus). He also loved to load his own ammunition and be out hunting.
Billy married the love of his life, Ora Fay Johnson on December 22, 2000 in Gore, Virginia.
Along with his wife, he is survived by his three sisters, Sandra D. Butcher (William “Bill”) of Broadway, VA, Brenda L. Powell (Edwin “Ed”) of Winchester, VA, and Ava Susan Sullivan (Danny) of Winchester, VA; three nieces, Debbie, Bonnie, and Michelle; three nephews, Terry, Todd, and Aaron.
Along with his parents, Billy is preceded in death by a nephew, Jimmy Butcher.
The family will receive friends on Wednesday, April 19, 2017 from 12 – 2pm at Omps Funeral Home, South Chapel. A funeral service will be conducted at 2 pm on Wednesday at Omps Funeral Home, South Chapel. Entombment will follow at the Shenandoah Memorial Park Mausoleum in Winchester, Virginia.
Serving as pallbearers will be his loving nieces and nephews. Honorary pallbearers will be his dear friends: Billy Fulk, Butch Creswell, Jerry Henry, Alton Ryman, Don Arnold, and Elliot Ritchie.
