Who We Are

We have years of experience caring for families, from all walks of life. Each family comes to us because they know we are leaders in our profession, dedicated to excellence in service, and have the highest integrity.

When we sit down with a family, we have just one goal: to create a fitting, memorable and affordable service for their loved one. Together, we explore the wide variety of services and products available, as well as a wealth of creative ideas and suggestions.

Together, we'll design a memorial or funeral service that suits their needs now, and in the future. Families who come to us know that years from now, they will have deep peace-of-mind because in coming to us, they've done their best to honor their loved one.

  • Our History

While our history has shaped who we are, and is the legacy on which we stand within the community, it’s important for you to know just one thing: we are professionals, yet we have heart. We extend an invitation to you to come into our firm, and meet us face-to-face; we know then that you’ll agree.

    73 Years of Dedicated Service

Omps Funeral Home and Cremation Center began in 1936, as Omps Funeral Home. Founded by Voyne B. Omps, after the purchase of the existing funeral business of William Parlett, located at 319 North Braddock Street in Winchester, the business continued at that location for the next ten years.

In 1946 Mr. Omps acquired and remodeled the Robinson residence at the corner of North Avenue and North Loudoun Street. Omps Funeral Home operated at 455 North Loudoun Street for many years, but in 1969, construction began on a new facility located on Route 50 West.

The new location opened at 1600 Amherst Street in September of 1969; this location operated under the continuing leadership of its founder, Voyne B. Omps, until May 22, 1978, when Larry T. Omps purchased the business from his father. The firm incorporated and has continued to operate as Omps Funeral Home, Inc. under the direction of Larry T. Omps, President.

In August of 2000, a second facility was opened on Route 522 South at 1260 Front Royal Pike, adjacent to Shenandoah Memorial Park. The cemetery was part of our firm for many years, but Omps Funeral Home and Cremation Center is no longer involved in its operation and upkeep.

The new Omps Funeral Home South Chapel serves to complement the operation of the Amherst Chapel, offering area residents easy access to an Omps Funeral Home location.

Honesty, Fairness, and Benevolent Service…an Omps Tradition

In the growth and development of our firm, one can readily see our steadfast commitment to the community and to serving the needs of its citizens. We are firmly committed to the proud tradition of funeral service, meeting the needs of our neighbors at a time when their needs are greatest.

We are also committed to honesty and fairness in our business operations. We pride ourselves on placing people before profits. Believing that we will get only as good as we give, we pledge everyday to provide the highest quality, most compassionate service to every family we meet.

    An Ecologically-Mindful Approach to Living

Many of you may have seen our electric car, used for errand-running about town. It’s just one example of our commitment to honoring the environment; here at Omps Funeral Home and Cremation Center we choose to recycle as much as possible, and consider it our responsibility to care for this remarkably beautiful place. “Going green” means more to us than you may realize; next time you see us motoring around Winchester in our ‘green machine,’ know that Omps cares.
