Ada V. Gardner, age 89, of Stephenson, Virginia passed away on Friday, May 3, 2019 surrounded by her family at Blue Ridge Hospice Inpatient Center.
Ada was born in Virginia in 1929, the daughter of the late Harry F. and Alma C. Gardner. Ada attended Gainesboro High School and worked at VDO Instruments, retiring in 1992. She was a member of Blue Ridge Grace Brethren Church and TOPS (Taking Off Pounds Sensibly). She liked attending court proceedings in both Winchester City and Frederick County courts. Ada loved tending to her flowers and she was constantly sweeping around the house.
Ada is survived by daughters, Barbara Grim (David), Brenda Clark (Elmer), and Cathy Baker (Joe): sons, Richard Whitacre (Christine) and Steven “Tuffy” Whitacre (Nancy); 10 grandchildren, Timothy Clark, David Grim, Jr., Patti Crenshaw, Stephanie Whitacre, Summer Whitacre, Brian Pingley, Jaime Pingley, Terri Long, David Leight, Jr. and Richard Whitacre, Jr.; 18 great-grandchildren, three great-great-grandchildren; sisters, Geneva Hawse, Linda Bunner, Nancy Gardner, Joan Lockhart, and Virginia Whitacre.
In addition to her parents, Ada is preceded in death by a daughter, Sandra Jenkins; son-in-law Marshall Jenkins; grandson, Robert Starkey; sister, Pauline Thompson; and brothers, Calvin, Doug, Ronnie and Jake Gardner.
The family will receive friends on Friday, May 10th from 6:00 until 8:00 pm at Omps, South Chapel.
A funeral service will be at 11:00 am on Saturday, May 11th at Omps, South Chapel with Pastor Davey Ermold officiating. A private entombment will be in Shenandoah Memorial Park Mausoleum.
