Charles Robert Hess, 86, of Winchester, Virginia passed away Sunday, March 17, 2019, at Blue Ridge Hospice Inpatient Care Center.
Mr. Hess was born in 1932 in Martinsburg, West Virginia, the son of the late Charles Broadway Hess and Margaret Hess. He attended John Handley High School. Mr. Hess retired from Ironworker Local #568 in Cumberland, Maryland. He loved RVing across the United States, loved people and never met a stranger. He was member of First Christian Church. He attended First Baptist Church and was an active member of the Men’s Bible Class. Mr. Hess was a proud member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles since 1951 and Loyal Order of Moose since 1976.
He married Betty L. Hanna on December 1, 2012 in Winchester, Virginia. They had seven happy and wonderful years together. They enjoyed many trips, visiting friends and family and were very involved in their community, church and friends.
Surviving with his wife is a daughter, Deborah Hess of Catonsville, Maryland; grandchildren, William Hess-Sparrow of Catonsville, Maryland, Lisa Keisling (Stacey) of Ranson, West Virginia, Patty Teets-Doberer (Bobby) of Falling Waters, West Virginia, Sherry Bishop (David) of Hagerstown, Maryland; and seven great grandchildren.
Mr. Hess was preceded in death by son, Gregory Allen Hess, his first wife, Dorothy Cameron Hess and second wife, Carolyn Bishop Hess, whom he was married to for forty-nine years.
A visitation will be from 6 pm to 8 pm on Thursday, March 28, 2019, at Omps Funeral Home, Amherst Chapel.
A funeral service will be at 11 am on Friday, March 29, 2019, at Omps Funeral Home, Amherst chapel with Reverend Dr. Kristin Adkins Whitesides officiating. A reception will follow the service at Omps Reception Center, Amherst Chapel. Interment will be private in Mount Hebron Cemetery, Winchester, Virginia.
Serving as pallbearers will be David Bishop, Ralph Cain, Bobby Doberer, Bradley Hanna, Mark Hanna, Stacey Keisling, Barry Shull, and Pete Shull.
