Claire Nolin Engelhardt, 80, of Frederick County, Virginia passed away Monday, April 8, 2019, at Orchard Woods Health Center.
Mrs. Engelhardt was born in 1938 in North Carolina, the daughter of the late Gaston and Mary Nolin. She graduated high school in Quebec, Canada and was owner/insurance broker for Robinson Engelhardt Insurance. Mrs. Engelhardt was not just an “insurance broker”, she was the first woman to have ownership of an insurance agency. She enjoyed classical music, modern gospel music, and was talented in playing the piano and violin; she also enjoyed singing, watching comedy TV and cooking. Mrs. Engelhardt took pride in the family home and enjoyed keeping it clean and organized. Later in life she loved dogs, but her greatest passion was her family and spending time with the grandchildren. Mrs. Engelhardt was a member of Christ Church in South Riding, Virginia.
She married Bert Arthur Engelhardt on Valentine’s Day, February 14, 1982, in Silver Spring, Maryland.
Surviving with her husband are daughters, Cathleen L. Roche of Virginia, Deborah A. Abt (Arthur Dunworth) of Maryland, Carrie Heron of Washington; sons, Matthew L. Roche (Rosemary) and Stephen E. Roche both of Maryland; grandchildren, Alexandra Lovullo (Ryon) of Maryland, Kyle Abt of Colorado, Elizabeth G. Hayes of Virginia, Max Moodie and Jake Bohn, both of Washington; and three great grandchildren.
Mrs. Engelhardt was preceded in death by two daughters, Mary Therese and Mary Claire; and two sisters, Jan Phillips and Marta V. Guagliardo; and one grandson, Jordan Roche.
A visitation will be from 6 pm to 8 pm on Friday, April 26th, at Omps Funeral Home, Amherst Chapel.
A memorial service will be conducted at 2 pm on Saturday, April 27th, at The Village of Orchard Ridge Chapel with Reverend Becki Neumann officiating.
