Clarence Charles Esser
Clarence “POP” Charles Esser, age 84, of Winchester, Virginia, passed away on Sunday, July 8, 2018 in Winchester Medical Center.
Mr. Esser was born in 1933, in Dallas, Pennsylvania, the son of the late Clarence J. and Dorothy A. Brobst Esser. He was a veteran of the Korean Conflict serving in the Air Force with a Basic Airman ranking. He worked as a nursing assistant at Rose Hill Health and Rehab in Berryville, Virginia until his retirement. He was of the Methodist faith and enjoyed being Santa and the Easter Bunny at the Apple Blossom Mall and several other places in town. He loved children and kept busy helping others as he was a very giving person. He said what he meant and he meant what he said. He worked alongside his wife doing yard work that they both enjoyed.
Clarence married Hazel M. Conklyn on February 16, 1958 in Kingwood, West Virginia.
Along with his wife, Clarence is survived by his daughters, Chris Dunn (Doug) of Stephens City, Virginia and Janell Swauger (Charlie) of Winchester, Virginia; his son, Sam Esser of Clear Brook, Virginia; daughter-in-law, Belinda Smith (Justin) of Berryville, Virginia; six grandchildren, Caren Pernicano, Douglas Dunn, Lisa Westfall, Misty Miller, Leah Swauger, and Louis Caruso, Jr.; seven great-grandchildren; sister, Joan Swire of Hagerstown, Maryland; and one brother, Larry Wolfe (Barb) of Hunlock Creek, Pennsylvania.
In addition to his parents, Clarence is preceded in death by his foster parents, Emery and Mary Harvey Wolfe, daughter, Brenda (Bill) Esser O’Donnell; and his foster child, Louis Caruso, Sr.
A gathering of family and friends will be held on Thursday, July 12th from 1:00-2:00 pm at Omps, South Chapel, 1260 Front Royal Pike, Winchester, VA 22602.
A funeral service will be held immediately after the gathering at 2:00 pm at Omps, South Chapel. Interment will be in Shenandoah Memorial Park.
