Our beloved mother, Colleen Skinner Miller, 75, of Winchester, Virginia, went to Heaven on Tuesday, September 19, 2017.
Colleen was born on October 10, 1941 in Hagerstown, Maryland, the daughter of the late Lillian and Stuart Skinner. She was a childhood piano prodigy, studied at Peabody Conservatory, performed with the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra, and taught piano throughout her life. Recently, Mrs. Miller was a member and organist at the Hillsboro United Methodist Church and accompanied many community performances over the years. “Cookie,” as she was affectionately known to family and friends alike, was an avid canner, creative quilter, and lover of anything sweet.
Colleen’s husband, Darl O. Miller, whom she happily married on May 12, 1962 in Syracuse, New York, has been waiting for her in Heaven since January 11, 2003.
Mrs. Miller is survived by two daughters, Pamela A. Miller of Cross Junction, Virginia and Deborah Miller Balcom of Winchester, Virginia; three sons, Sean S. Miller of Washington, DC, Scott D. Miller of Virginia Beach, Virginia and Brian D. Miller of Clear Brook, Virginia; and four grandchildren, Rebecca Balcom, Noelle Miller, Madison Brandt, and Morgan Miller.
Colleen was a dedicated and caring mother, wife, and friend who gave all the love she had. Like the “Bluebird of Happiness,” she filled the world with lasting grace and unconditional love.
The family will receive friends from 6 pm to 8 pm on Monday at Omps Funeral Home, South Chapel in Winchester, Virginia. A funeral service will be conducted at 11 am on Tuesday at Omps Funeral Home, South Chapel with Reverend Mark Jagoe officiating. Interment will be in Shenandoah Memorial Park, Winchester, Virginia.
