I don't know if his family will see this but hopefully they will. Mr. Dixon was the 1st black male educator in a lot of kids my age and older and he was tough and he wasn't the most liked but that's what made me like him even more. He had no interest in winning a popularity contest, he wanted to educate and steer young minds in the right direction and I apprecriated him. Rest in peace
Dr. Dawn Brodus-Yougha left a message on August 9, 2019:
In August 1997, as a first year teacher at Kenmoor ES, I had the pleasure of both meeting and working with Mr. Dixon; and he has served as a mentor teacher to me since then. Even though we no longer worked at the same school or school district, a group of us (Mrs. Jones, Mrs. Nelson, Mrs. Hay, Mr. Bray, Ms. Driggins, and myself) have continued to meet for dinners and/or special occasions; and have worked hard to maintain this decades' long friendship. Our dinners were always filled with much laughter and lively discussions about past events and/or colleagues! The last time we saw Mr. Dixon was in August 2018; and it was obvious to those of us that knew him that he was still grieving the loss of his wife, Cynthia. When I expressed an interest in joining a book club, Mr. Dixon introduced me to his wife's book club! So I had to honor of knowing both Mr. and Mrs. Dixon. Mr. Dixon's obituary said that he died of heart failure, but I'd like to believe it was from a broken heart! Mr. Dixon will be missed tremendously! Although he had a dry sense of humor, Mr. Dixon was a man of few words, but when he spoke people listened! Mr. Dixon was well respected by administrators, parents, and students; and will be remembered as a strong advocate for both children and education. This is evidenced by his long, successful career in education. My thoughts and prayers are with David Jr.; and his family. God Bless You, Mr. Dixon!

Wow! What a classy guy. When I had a retirement party for my sister. David Dixon walked into the room. The entire group stood up and gave a roaring welcome. It was like Jack Kennedy walked into the room. My entire school still miss him. Very sorry to hear about his death. Mary Harris "Mother" Jones Elementary School
