David Paul Underwood, II, 54, of Paw Paw, West Virginia, beloved son of Joanne Laird and David Paul Underwood, passed away on Wednesday, February 13, 2019, at his home after a four-year battle with malignant melanoma.
David was born in 1964 in Los Angeles, California, where he spent his early years before moving to Northern Virginia. He graduated from Robinson High School in Fairfax, Virginia. David loved to travel and during his life resided in Virginia, California, Colorado, and Hawaii.
In his working years he was a fine dining chef, working in restaurants in Georgetown and Washington, D.C.; Denver, Colorado; and the Hawaiian Islands. David returned to the states seven years ago, settling in Paw Paw and working for Coral Graphics in Berryville, Virginia. He continued his love of cooking by helping at various events to benefit Relay for Life, and also at breakfasts and dinners at Bloomery Presbyterian Church in Bloomery, West Virginia.
David loved all sports, especially football and was an avid Redskins fan. He had a passion for flying remote control planes and helicopters, and had recently taken up flying drones, for which he was especially proficient. David was very fond of his two Yorkies, whom he called his “therapy dogs”.
Surviving with his parents is a brother, Douglas and wife, Jennifer; two nephews, Nicholas and Jason; and a niece, Madison.
A visitation will be from 2 pm to 4 pm on Saturday, February 23rd, at Omps Funeral Home, Amherst Chapel with a memorial service at 4 pm with Pastor David Omps officiating. Interment will be at a later date in St. Mary’s Byzantine Cemetery, Windber, Pennsylvania.
