Dolores A. Pruett, 80 of Winchester, VA, died suddenly on January 15, 2019 of a heart attack.
Dolores was born on August 10th, 1938 in Ishpeming, Michigan, the daughter of Ellen and Edward LaFave. In her youth she was active in performing arts, while in high school, and enjoyed spending time with her friends. She was married to Cliff Pruett on November 9, 1957 in Gwinn, Michigan. As the wife of an Air Force Serviceman they moved to England shortly afterward. They returned to the states 5 years later settling in Maryland. They moved to Capon Bridge, WV in 1978. After Cliff’s passing, Dolores moved to Winchester, VA.
Dolores worked as a secretary at Timber Ridge School in Frederick County for 22 years before retiring in 2001. She was a member of Unit #137 of the American Legion Auxiliary in Capon Bridge for 36 years. She was a quiet and caring person. Dolores overcame life’s difficulties through her thoughtful patience and strong Catholic faith. She loved to read, play countless games of “Words With Friends” and looked forward to her weekly bingo nights with friends. She enjoyed the meditation of a good puzzle. She loved spending time with her grandchildren, and kept a beautiful and immaculate home.
Dolores recently enjoyed a trip back to Gwinn, Michigan to celebrate her 62nd High School Reunion, and enjoyed spending time there with her lifelong best friends Chris and Don St. Aubin.
Known as “Nana” to her grandchildren, she will be remembered also for her secret talents, such as spelling backwards, writing shorthand, excellence in family board games, reading novels with incredible speed and giving a great hug (even when standing in at 4’ 11”). Survivors include a daughter, Pamela Anderberg and her husband Jim of Lincoln, VA as well as a step-daughter, Cheryl Alley and her husband Mark of Overland, MO. Three grandchildren, Travis, Jessica and Kyle Anderberg and two step grandchildren, Erica and Michael Alley and a step-sister, Darlene Tackett and her husband Doug. She is preceded in death by her parents, husband, infant daughter, Emy and step-son, Daniel.
A mass of Christian burial will be held on January 25th, 2019 at 11:00am, with Rev. Bjorn C. Lundberg officiating, at Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church in Winchester, VA. The family will receive friends one hour prior in the church vestibule from 10:-11:00 am. There will be a reception afterwards given by Bereavement Committee at Muldowney Hall at the church. Interment will be at a later date in Arlington National Cemetery in Arlington, VA, with her late husband, Cliff.
