Irma Jeanne graduated from Romney High School in 1952 and received a degree in Biology from Shepherd University in Shepherdstown, WV. After graduating from Shepherd, she moved to Richmond, VA, where she attended and graduated from the Medical College of Virginia. Early in her career, she worked as a Medical Technologist at hospitals in Winchester, VA and Romney, WV. She was the director of the laboratory at Romney Memorial Hospital for several years. After a career in the medical community, she co-owned and operated M. L. Pugh Orchards in Romney with her husband Marion. Concurrently several years later, she co-owned Hampshire Distributors, Inc. in Romney, WV, until her retirement.
Irma Jeanne’s four grandchildren meant the world to her. Nannie, as the grandchildren called her, loved to spend time with family. Her ideal day was being surrounded by her family enjoying long hours of fellowship. Irma Jeanne was very artistic and creative and loved to cross-stitch and through this hobby she created many cross-stitch creations for her children and grandchildren. She was also an avid reader and enjoyed painting, ceramics and flipping through her big red recipe binder looking for something to cook or bake. Some of her most precious memories were cooking with the grandkids. Irma Jeanne loved listening to music including the Beach Boys song “Kokomo” and songs by Jimmy Buffet. She never missed a Washington National’s baseball game and even purchased a Nat’s ‘Teddy’ stuffed toy who she proudly displayed on the sofa as good luck for each game.
Irma Jeanne loved the beach and in the early 1990’s, she and Marion purchased a second home in Florida. They enjoyed the warm temperatures and loved being “snow birds”. She would read on the back porch while Marion went golfing. When the Washington National’s spring training camp opened in Florida near their home, she loved attending the games.
