Janice F. (Dewhirst) Hopkins, 79, of Winchester, Virginia passed away Saturday, May 25, 2019, at Winchester Medical Center.
Ms. Hopkins was born in 1939 in Washington, D.C., the daughter of the late Edgar and Ruth Dewhirst. She graduated from Washington-Lee High School, Class of 1957. Ms. Hopkins worked for the National Science Foundation for 10 years and the Department of Agriculture for 13 years; retiring after 23 years of faithful government service. She was an accomplished quilter, enjoyed needlepoint, and collected elephant paraphernalia. Ms. Hopkins owned and drag raced her ’62 Corvette and ’63 Pontiac and was a faithful NASCAR fan. She loved visiting Ocean City, but most of all her family and friends meant everything to her. It was a great joy to her to attend her grandchildren’s sporting events and recitals.
Surviving Janice is her daughter, Teresa M. Carter (Bruce), and her son, John D. Hopkins (Holly); grandchildren – Sharon, Samuel, George, Rebecca; great-grandchildren – Jarrett, Liam, Owen, Camille; and sister, LaVerne Dewhirst. Preceding her in death is her brother, Clarence Dewhirst.
