Russ and Emily Potts left a message on September 23, 2019:
Emily and I are so sorry about the passing of Joy. She was a wonderful person and made such a huge difference – both as an educator and as a public official with her exemplary service to the Stephens City Town Council. We attended Handley together and we shared the love of our alma mater and all the great times we experienced there. Joy had a significant influence on so many of her students that I know carried over into their lives. Love and God bless. Sincere and heartfelt condolences. Your friends, Russ and Emily Potts

Robin Grenke left a message on September 21, 2019:
Joy and I became friends while working together on a shared project in our Master's degree program while teaching at Handley. I still remember sitting around Joy's dining room table transcribing taped interviews and drinking glass after glass of iced tea. Many years and many memories later, we continued our friendship. I will miss chatting on the phone, meeting for lunch, exchanging cards & gifts, hearing Joy's laugh, seeing her smile. I will miss her friendship. Rest in peace, dear friend. I extend sincere sympathy to Scott and to Joy's sons and family.

I will allows remember her service to the Town of Stephens City. I had the opportunity to work for Town Council for many years. And yes, I was also one of her students at Handley.
