June Marie (Helsley) Bishop, 84, of Winchester, Virginia passed away Saturday, January 19, 2019, at Blue Ridge Hospice Inpatient Care Center.
Mrs. Bishop was born in 1934 in Winchester, Virginia, the daughter of the late George and Lottie Helsley. She was a graduate of James Wood High School, Class of 1953. Mrs. Bishop retired as owner/operator of Junie’s Hair Styling Boutique. Her presence created smiles on faces whenever she was around and she enjoyed listening to bluegrass and country music. Mrs. Bishop was a past member of the Winchester Moose Lodge and the Sweet Adelines Acapella Group. During her lifetime she resided in Tombstone, Arizona and Frisco, Texas. She always enjoyed an adventure, traveling to Greece, England, Martinique, Puerto Rico, Spain, Mexico, Hawaii, Isle of Mallorca, and Canada, but loved long drives to the mountains and ocean-side drives on sandy beaches as well. Her greatest passion was spending time with her family and enjoying her friendships with life-long friends, classmates, and locals of the Winchester and Frederick County area.
She married Robert L. Bishop on November 23, 1952 in Hagerstown, Maryland.
Surviving with her husband of 66 years are daughters, Kathryn L. Jennings (Mark) of Virginia Beach, Virginia and Sharon M. Bishop-Elliott (Michael) of Lakewood Village, Texas; son, Jeffrey J. Bishop (Kathy) of Winchester, Virginia; grandchildren, Jennifer Gerdau (Bryan), Benjamin Bishop (Sophie), Samantha Lee Elliott, and Thomas “Cameron” Jennings; great grandchildren, Landon Gerdau, Aubrey Bishop, and Taylor Lynn Gerdau; sisters, Madeline Dubrueler of Winchester, Virginia, Mary Lee Ritter of Stephens City, Virginia, and Barbara Jean Funkhouser of Baker, West Virginia; brothers, James E. Helsley of Winchester, Virginia and Paul D. Helsley of Baker, West Virginia.
Mrs. Bishop was preceded in death by a daughter, Karen Marie Bishop; brothers, Joseph A. Helsley, Jake Helsley, and George E. Helsley, Jr.; and a sister, Aryon “Irene” Miller.
A visitation will be from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM on Monday, January 28, 2019 at Omps Funeral Home, Amherst Chapel with a funeral service at 11:00 AM with Pastor Chuck Davis officiating. Interment will be in Ebenezer Church Cemetery, Gore, Virginia.
Memorial contributions may be made in June’s memory to Blue Ridge Hospice, 333 W. Cork Street, Suite 405, Winchester, VA 22601.
