Kathryn “Katty” Venable Claytor, 95, passed away Tuesday, June 4, 2019, at The Willows at Meadow Branch.
Katty was born in 1923, the daughter of the late John and Emma Venable. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family. Her family owned and operated Venable’s Grocery Store in Stephens City for two generations. She graduated from Stephens City High School and from Winchester Business School. Katty spent her career working at Stephens City Elementary School and Bass Hoover Elementary School, both in the office and helping to collect lunch money from children she loved. She was a lifelong member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Stephens City, Virginia.
Her husband, Robert H. Claytor, whom she married in October 1946 preceded her in death in August 1988. They were married for 42 years.
Surviving is a son, Robert W. Claytor and wife, Susan; granddaughters, Cary Claytor and Rieman Royston and her husband, Ryan; four great grandchildren, Page and Will Brubaker, Gus and Teddy Royston; sister-in-law, Winne Venable; many loving nieces and nephews; and a very special niece, who was like a daughter, Anne Reely.
Along with her parents and her husband, Kathryn was preceded in death by four sisters and three brothers.
A visitation will be from 10 am to 11 am on Tuesday at Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church, 810 Fairfax Street, Stephens City, Virginia with a funeral service at 11 am. Officiating will be Pastor George L. Sims and Pastor Vernon Bray. Interment will be in Green Hill Cemetery, Stephens City, Virginia.
Serving as pallbearers will be Ryan Royston, Bill Staples, Paul Anderson, William McClanahan, Linden Fravel, and John Holt.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Katty’s memory to Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church, 810 Fairfax Street, Stephens City, Virginia 22655 or Blue Ridge Hospice, 333 W. Cork Street, Suite 405, Winchester, Virginia 22601.
