Lula M. Smith

 

            Lula Mildred (Jenkins) Smith, 94, of Frederick County, Virginia, died Monday, August 11, 2014 in the Blue Ridge Hospice Residential Center in Winchester.

 

            Mrs. Smith was born in 1920 in Grantsville, MD, the daughter of the late Ralph and Anna Jenkins.  She was a member of Victory Church and was employed at O’Sullivan Corp. in the trimming room of the Rubber Division, retiring after 27 years of service.

 

            Her husband, Elonzy Wilson Smith, whom she married on November 8, 1942, preceded her in death on November 23, 2000.

 

            Surviving are two daughters, Fay Ann Gentel of Cross Junction, VA and Alcy Marie Dean of Winchester, VA; two sons, James Lee Smith and Paul Wilson Smith, both of Winchester; 15 grandchildren and 18 great grandchildren. Nine brothers and sisters are deceased.

 

            The family will receive friends on Thursday from 6:00 – 8:00 PM at Omps Funeral Home, South Chapel.

 

            A funeral service will be conducted at 11:00 AM on Friday with Reverend Hartley Wigfield and Reverend David Cunsolo officiating. Interment will be in Shenandoah Memorial Park.

 

            Memorial contributions may be made to Blue Ridge Hospice, 333 W. Cork St., Suite 405, Winchester, VA 22601.

Alcy, Jr. and Family, Our hearts and prayers go out to you during this difficult time. She was a MODEL CHRISTIAN serving her Lord and Savior right up to the end. Praying to God that she was ready to go when he was ready to take her, and quoting Bible scriptures as we visited her and I was holding her hand. She was a marvelous woman of faith and never complained about what she was going thru. We are fortunate to have known such a wonderful lady for over 45 years. And to get to hear her tell the stories of her long life, I will cherish the trips she and I made to Cumberland to visit relatives, shop and eat, and listen to her tell of her life when she lived there. And we can't forget the fudge and potato candy she made us on a regular bases. Our lives have been very blessed by her being our FRIEND.
