Major Ira Edwin McNally, Jr., USA, Retired, 93, of Winchester, Virginia passed away Thursday, August 1, 2019, at his home.
Mr. McNally was born in 1925 in Ashland, Maine, son of the late Ira and Leila McNally. He graduated from Ashland High School and was a graduate of Officer Candidate School US Army, Class of 1952. Mr. McNally was a veteran of the United States Navy and the United States Army, having served during World War II, achieving the rank of Major. After his retirement from the military he continued to serve his country as a Communications/Project Manager with the Department of Defense. Once he completely retired Mr. McNally enjoyed motor-homing with the Shenandoah SAMS. He was a Ham/Amateur Radio Operator, loved Cocker Spaniels, and adored his grandchildren.
Mr. McNally married Betty Jean Goble on June 11, 1949 in Patterson, New Jersey.
Surviving with his wife of 70 years is a daughter, Susan Sofield (Mike) of La Plata, Maryland; grandchildren, Michael Sofield, Jr. (Jamie) of Powder Springs, Georgia and Brian Sofield of Mauldin, South Carolina; and great grandson, Lucas Aiden Sofield of Mauldin, South Carolina.
All services will be private. Arrangements are being handled by Omps Funeral Home, Amherst Chapel.
