Michael W. Mills, 67, of Winchester, Virginia passed away Monday, August 6, 2018, at home surrounded by his loving family.
Michael was born in 1951 in Queens, New York, the son of Maj. William F. Mills (USMC, Retired) and the late Elizabeth Mills. He was a graduate of T.C. Williams High School in Alexandria, Virginia and George Mason University earning a Bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice. Michael was a counselor with Crossroads Counseling Center, where he embraced helping troubled teens. He was also a teacher’s assistant with Winchester Public School system. Michael was a non-denominational minister and was one of the founding members of Unity of the Shenandoah in Stephens City, Virginia. He was a member of the Beloved Community, a lay Franciscan, and a member of the Kiwanis. Michael was an avid fan of the Beatles, John Lennon, the Redskins, WWE (where he always yelled at the bad guys but liked the Undertaker, John Cena, and Hulk Hogan), and had a passion for Native American culture. He enjoyed gardening, bird watching, hiking, camping, reading, focusing on the ecology and wanting to save the world. His greatest loves were his grandchildren and his dogs. Playing with the grandchildren and spending time with them was priceless, something he always looked forward to. A most kind soul to family, friends, and God’s earth that is missed.
