Ruthe Galbraith, 97, died peacefully at home on Friday, January 18, 2019, cared for by her life companion, Maggie Hindes. Ruthe was born in Erie, PA on November 28, 1921 to Lawrence and Anna Utzig Schmitzer. She is proceeded in death by her husband of 50 years, John Galbraith, and her sister, Marjorie Riazzi Kitelinger. John and Ruthe’s careers took them to Pittsburgh, PA, Steubenville, OH and Glenview, IL. Upon retiring, they settled in Winchester.

Ruthe was a devoted mother, grandmother and friend. Her sense of humor, spunky attitude and zest for life endeared her to family and friends. She was one of a kind.

Ruthe is survived by her son, Dr. Mark Galbraith (Susan) of Winchester, VA; her 3 grandchildren, Byron Galbraith (Karen Zyck) of Chestnut Hill, MA; Colin Galbraith of Arlington, MA; Maura Justice (Dan) of College Park, MD; 3 great grandchildren, Zephan, Tamzin and Carsten Galbraith of Chestnut Hill, MA; her dear friend, Maggie Hindes of Winchester, VA and her sister, Dolores Moore of Stafford, VA.

A memorial mass and a celebration of her life will be held in the spring.
