Walter Roy “Wally” Eichhorst, 84, of Frederick County, Virginia passed away Friday, September 6, 2019 at his home.
Mr. Eichhorst was born in 1935 in Illinois, son of late Harry and Martha Eichhorst. He was a veteran of the Illinois National Guard and earned an Associate’s degree from DeVry Institute of Technology. Mr. Eichhorst was a project engineer with Fabritek Co. Inc. in Winchester VA, retiring in 2003. Prior employment included engineering at Capon Manufacturing in Wardensville, WV, Asbury Packaging in Passaic, NJ and Plastofilm Industries in Wheaton, IL. He was a member of Calvary Baptist Church in Winchester.
For an after school job he was a caddie at the local golf course and continued with the sport to become very accomplished. He used his electronics degree as a television repairman. He worked his way up in the plastic packaging industry to become Chief Engineer building packaging machinery, custom fiberglass molding and custom manufacturing machines.
He met his future wife, Luella and married in 1955. They had two children, Ken and Eric.
Wally did his best job of raising his family by going to church and participating in everything as a family. Scouting, camping, skating, skiing, archery, bowling, bicycling, hiking, boating, motorcycling and the shooting sports.
Surviving with his wife are sons, Eric Eichhorst of Stephens City, VA and Ken Eichhorst (and wife, Pam) of Augusta, WV; 3 grandchildren, Vickie, Jennifer and Brian; six great grandchildren and his sister and brother both of Illinois.
All services will be private. Arrangements are being handled by Omps Funeral Home, Amherst Chapel.
