Wyndam Fowler “Corky” Clifton, 90, of Frederick County, Virginia passed away Saturday, December 1, 2018, at Winchester Medical Center. Wyndam Fowler “Corky” Clifton, 90, of Frederick County, Virginia passed away Saturday, December 1, 2018, at Winchester Medical Center.
Clif, as he was called, was born in 1928 in Danville, Virginia, the son of the late Floyd and Arra Clifton. He was a veteran of the United States Navy, having served on the USS Orion. Clif worked for the US House of Representatives, at the Rayburn building, retiring after 30 years of service. After retirement he and his wife, Sarah, relocated from Springfield, Virginia to Winchester, Virginia. He was a former member of the Winchester Moose, Isaac Walton League and delivered Meals on Wheels in the past. Clif loved being outside, especially gardening or fishing. He was an avid and frequent visitor of yard sales. Clif liked watching NASCAR, WWE wrestling, and was always on top of the world news. He was a faithful member of the First Christian Church.
He married Sarah Gissendanner Wallace in August 1986 in Alexandria, Virginia.
Surviving with his wife is a daughter, Cheryl L. Clifton; stepdaughter, Melinda Rehmann Wheatley; grandsons, Jonathon and Christopher Rehmann; and great grandson, Alex and Zachary Rehmann.
Clif was preceded in death by his first wife, Dorothy L. Drumheller Clifton; and six siblings.
A visitation will be from 3 pm to 4 pm on Friday at First Christian Church, 75 Merrimans Lane, Winchester, Virginia with a funeral service at 4 pm with Pastor Mike Moulden officiating. Interment will be at 10 am on Saturday at Mt. Comfort Cemetery, Alexandria, Virginia.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in memory of Clif may be made to First Christian Church, WATTS Program (Winchester Area Temporary Thermal Shelter), 75 Merrimans Lane, Winchester, Virginia and you are welcome to bring nonperishable food items to Omps Funeral Home, 1600 Amherst Street, Winchester, Virginia or to First Christian Church for donations to WATTS.
