Margaret “Margie” Jane Newlin, 86, of Frederick County, Virginia, passed away Tuesday, May 22, 2018, at Winchester Medical Center.
Mrs. Newlin was born in 1932 in Hot Springs, Virginia, the daughter of the late Corbett H. and Eugie M. Ryder. She was the oldest of six children and started working at the age of 13 at Valley View Inn (part of the Homestead Hotel at Hot Springs, Virginia) to help support the family. Margie moved to Winchester in 1954 and continued her education in nursing school. She worked at Winchester Memorial Hospital (now Winchester Medical Center), retiring in 1995 after 39 years of service, but continued private nursing care until April 2014. Margie provided care to others for 60 years.
Margie joined the Pentecostal Holiness Church in 1960 where she taught 9-12 year olds Sunday school for 15 years; was a member of the Ladies Ministry and an advocate for the Easter Candy Building Fund. After 20 years of service in this ministry Margie joined Winchester Church of God in 1982. Always wanting to serve the Lord Margie taught Sunday school, was a member of the church choir, member of the Prime Timers choir, involved in the care ministry and ladies ministry, was part of the Prime Timers Group, the prayer chain coordinator, church receptionist, and a church cook where she would coordinate luncheons that would follow a funeral service. In spreading God’s word Margie was involved in Outreach Ministries with Westminster Canterbury, teaching Sunday school Bible study; conducted a Bible study group in her home for four years; and provided the Senior Center of Stephens City with songs and Bible study.
A true Christian woman that loved the Lord. She enjoyed sewing, crocheting, coloring, and absolutely loved gospel music. But no one could outshine her love for Alan Jackson.
Her husband, Carlton “Sammy” Newlin, whom she married on April 22, 1988 in Winchester, Virginia preceded her in death in 1995. Margie was also preceded in death by her first husband, Lloyd Kent Alderman, in 1960 and her second husband, Vern Harley Alderman in 2015.
Surviving are children Lloyd “Jimmy” James Alderman of Gore, Virginia, Susan Jean Cutshaw of Stephenson, Virginia, Joan Kay Allen of Winchester, Virginia, Dale Sue Alderman of Winchester, Virginia, and Gale Glenda Newlin of Nain, Virginia; stepsons, Nathan and C.R. Newlin; grandchildren, Robert L. Kirby, Jr., Curtis V. Kirby, George Smith, Cassandra R. Ogle, Travis B. Cutshaw, Daniel V. Cutshaw, David V. Cutshaw, Amanda A. Shull, Misty D. Queen, Justin W. Allen, John Maninga, II, Katherine M. Salamanca, Sarah N. Williams, Ryan Newlin, and Emily N. Newlin; great grandchildren, Angel Shull, Josh Shull, Logan Ogle, Luke Ogle, Mallory Ogle, Jack Ogle, Jasilyn Queen, Noah Queen, Jacob Queen, Caleb Queen, Charlotte Queeen, Mitchell Kirby, Tamara Kirby, Ana Cutshaw, Judah Cutshaw, Joshua Cutshaw, Eowyn Cutshaw, Genevieve Cutshaw, Elias Cutshaw, Claire Cutshaw, Peter Cutshaw, Nicholas Cutshaw, Joy Cutshaw, Liam Allen, Ava Williams, Jackson Williams, Sophie Salamanca, Cody Maninga, Emmalynn Lewis, Peyton Fox, Braydon Fox, Caleb Watkins, and Kaiden Watkins; and sister, Mildred “Millie” Wombold of Greenville, Ohio.
Margie was preceded in death by her parents, husbands, daughters, Wanda J. Kirby, Rose A. Alderman, and Phyliss A. Alderman; sons, Warren C. Alderman died at 2-1/2 years old and twins who were stillborn; sisters, Shirley M. Risko, Nancy L. Hefner, and Emily “Joyce” Wade; brother, Corbett H. Ryder.
The family will receive friends from 6 pm to 8 pm on Thursday at Omps Funeral Home, Amherst Chapel.
A funeral service will be conducted at 2 pm on Friday at Winchester Church of God, 2080 N. Frederick Pike, Winchester, Virginia with Pastor Darrell Waller officiating. A fellowship meal will follow the service at the church. Interment will be Tuesday at 11 am in Shenandoah Memorial Park, Winchester, Virginia.
Serving as pallbearers will be Margie’s grandchildren, Tyler Williams, Jason Queen, Logan Ogle, Travis Cutshaw, Daniel Cutshaw, David Cutshaw, Justin Allen, and Ryan Newlin.
Honorary pallbearers will be Paul Hash, Jim Furrow, Garland Elliott, Greg Elliott, Tom Butler, Junior Meadows, and Menno Frank Heisey.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Margie’s memory to Winchester Church of God, 2080 N. Frederick Pike, Winchester, Virginia 22603.
