Arlyn Mary Teresa Chalfant, 77, of Frederick County, Virginia, passed away on Saturday, April 27, 2019, at a local nursing facility. Arlyn Mary Teresa Chalfant, 77, of Frederick County, Virginia, passed away on Saturday, April 27, 2019, at a local nursing facility.
Mrs. Chalfant was born in 1941, in Evanston, Illinois, the daughter of the late Helen G. and Arnold Ryan Chalfant. She was a graduate of Beloit University in Wisconsin, receiving a Bachelor’s Degree in English and James Madison University, where she received a Master’s Degree in Special Education. Mrs. Chalfant was employed as a Data Processor at the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception in Washington, DC, eventually retiring from there. She was a former High School English Teacher in New York and New Jersey, later working in Winchester, Virginia, at Grafton School.
Mrs. Chalfant was a member of Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church in Winchester, Virginia. She was a religiously devout woman with the church at the center of her life. She loved animals, rescuing several cats over the years. She loved all of nature, trees and the outdoors, especially Shenandoah Skyline Drive.
Surviving is her daughter, Marikay McCabe of Madrid, Spain; son, Thomas Paul McCabe of Moravia, New York; granddaughter, Olivia Chalfant McCabe of Madrid, Spain; and sister, Ariel Newcomb of Key West, Florida; and nieces, Carolyn Plummer and Kathryn Magesacher, both of the San Francisco Bay area.
Along with her parents, she is preceded in death by her former husband, Thomas Anthony McCabe of Sayre, Pennsylvania, and her brother, Arnold Chalfant of San Francisco Bay area.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be conducted at 11:00 AM on Wednesday, May 1st, 2019 at Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church, with Reverend Stephen Holmes officiating. Interment will be in Sacred Heart Cemetery, Winchester, Virginia.
