Edward Winchester, 83, of Urbana, MD passed away Monday, June 3, 2019, at The John Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore, MD.
Mr. Winchester was born in 1937 in Jacksonville, Illinois, son of the late Jessie and Geraldine Winchester. He graduated from University of Chicago and Loyola University, earning a Bachelor of Science degree in Commerce Systematic Analysis and furthered his education graduating from Texas Tech University, earning a MBA. Mr. Winchester was a veteran of the United States Air Force, achieving the rank of Captain. He worked for the office of Secretary of the Dept. of Defense, retiring after 20 years. He also founded the Pentagon Meditation Club in 1965 for stress renewal and creative decision making. In the past Mr. Winchester was a brother with The Clerics of Saint Viator. He and his wife, Loretta, were married Nov. 10, 1991 and were members of the Dormition of the Virgin Mary Greek Orthodox Church.
Surviving with his wife is daughter, Catherine Savell and son, Joseph Winchester; stepdaughters, Darlene Davis and Christina Armwood; grandchildren, Alex and Elyse Winchester, Matthew and Mark Albright, and Elizabeth Savell; step-grandsons, Cody and Tyler Funkhouser and Jack Shollengerger.
Mr. Winchester was preceded in death by his sister, Mary and brothers, David and Mark Winchester.
A visitation will be from 12 pm to 2 pm on Thursday at Omps Funeral Home, Amherst Chapel with a funeral service at 2 pm with Father Michael Kontogiorgis officiating. Entombment will be in Shenandoah Memorial Park Mausoleum, Winchester, Virginia.
The family request no flowers or gifts, memorial contributions may be made in Edward’s memory to a charity of donor’s choice.
